Location: This role is peripatetic and travel will be required across Yorkshire & Humber and West Midlands

Interview Date: To be confirmed

Are you a relationship-builder with a passion for making a real difference in local communities? We're looking for a Church and Community Fundraising Officer to help grow sustainable income and impact across Yorkshire & Humber and West Midlands.

The Salvation Army expresses its Christian faith through practical action, working at the heart of communities across the UK and Ireland. Through around 600 churches and community centres, alongside specialist services, we support people experiencing some of life's most difficult challenges.

As Church and Community Fundraising Officer, you will help Salvation Army churches and centres generate income, strengthen their fundraising capability and build lasting relationships across your assigned region. You will provide practical advice, develop tailored fundraising approaches and cultivate partnerships with community organisations, local businesses, councils, civic leaders and other key stakeholders.

This is a varied, outward-facing role for an experienced fundraiser who can combine strategic thinking with hands-on support. You will focus activity where it can have the greatest impact while helping lower-income or developing areas build confidence and capacity for the future.

Key responsibilites:

  • Act as the first point of contact for churches and centres in your region, providing fundraising advice tailored to their needs, opportunities and capability.
  • Build trusted relationships, identify funding priorities and develop effective fundraising messages, activities and appeals.
  • Develop organisational-giving opportunities and strategic partnerships with community groups, businesses and local stakeholders.
  • Support individuals and volunteers fundraising for The Salvation Army, helping them increase their impact and build lasting support.
  • Lead on a defined territory-wide area, such as grants, community partnerships or campaigns, and help develop best-practice tools and resources.
  • Use data and insight to prioritise opportunities, monitor performance and deliver measurable income and engagement outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively across fundraising, divisional and central teams to support major appeals and strengthen a mission-centred, sustainable fundraising culture.
  • Ensure fundraising activity is effective, compliant and aligned with the Fundraising Regulator's Code and relevant organisational policies.

To be successful in this role you will; bring strong experience from a busy fundraising environment, ideally within church-based or community fundraising, together with evidence of achieving individual financial targets. You will be confident building relationships with a wide range of people and able to turn local needs and opportunities into practical fundraising plans.

In addition you bring;

  • Strong stakeholder and relationship-management skills, with a collaborative and customer-focused approach.
  • Experience of working with faith-based organisations and an understanding of churches and church networks.
  • Confident use of fundraising CRM systems, data analysis and reporting to support decisions and identify trends.
  • Knowledge of data protection requirements, fundraising regulation and recognised fundraising practice.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and the resilience to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly—up to 50% of working time—within the assigned region.
  • Ability and willingness to work within, and be sympathetic to, the Christian ethos and values of The Salvation Army.

Our values: We expect everyone who works with us to model our values of integrity, accountability, compassion, passion, respect and boldness.
